ATTENTION:
The Department of Theatre & Dance in the College of Arts and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Acting beginning August 2024.
This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in the Theatre BFA and BA programs, research, and service to the university and community.
Research should complement existing faculty expertise.
JOB DETAILS: The candidate's teaching load will include theatre courses and production directing assignments as part of the BFA Performance and BA Theatre programs.
The candidate will be expected to pursue a research agenda that engages undergraduate students, and contributes to advancing of the department, university, profession, and society.
The candidate will be expected to participate in service activities and embrace inclusion as a member of the university community.
The successful candidate will have additional expertise in one or more of the following: stage intimacy coordination & choreography, musical theatre performance/production, and film performance/production.
The candidates will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace inclusion as university community members.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree (MFA or Ph.
D.
) in acting performance.
ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2024; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2025 in advance of their first scheduled review.
Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to higher education teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, evidence of quality research in publication and/or in support of theatrical production, commitment to working with diverse populations and serving as active member of the university community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Willingness and ability to actively follow applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.
Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Full-Time teaching responsibilities include: Teaching theatre courses that include: Introduction to Acting, Auditioning, Acting Analysis & Performance, Movement for the Actor, Problems of Style, Improvisation, Vocal Production & Stage Speech, Acting for the Camera and directing two mainstage productions a year.
Other responsibilities include: Academic advising, supervise and mentor BFA/BA students, collaborate on department curriculum development, collaborate on National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) accreditation, and student oversight, mentorship, and attendance at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).
Research expectations include: Publication, grant activity and theatrical production.
In addition, faculty members are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities.
Service responsibilities include: Committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations as relevant to the candidate¿s expertise and interest.
Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings or on weekends.
Faculty may also elect to teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities or participate in other programs geared toward improving student success.

The programs serve over 50 theatre majors, 20 theatre minors and 35 dance minors.
BFA majors are offered in the areas of performance, design/tech, stage management, as well as BA and BSE degrees.
Five productions are mounted each year, four in theatre and one in dance.
