Our *Medical Surgical Manager* is an administrative leader who is responsible for all aspects of Medical Surgical staff management, departmental management, and for creating a professional practice environment that focuses on the customer.
Other responsibilities are as follows: * Develop and provide a patient care delivery system that encourages professional practice of staff and results in quality, cost effective care outcomes.
* Assure that patient/family nursing is provided within the department established standards * Ability to demonstrate competent clinical knowledge in providing patient care in such areas as age-specific assessment, monitoring hemodynamic and cardiac status of patients, knowledge of medications and patient/family teaching, as well as, acting as clinical resource to staff and other departments.
* Ability to analyze clinical practice and identify opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency * Ability to identify clinical indicators for CQI and performance improvement activities.
* Ability to perform interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and termination activities based on standards of practice and care, nursing and hospital policy and procedures.
* Ability to plan and organize orientation and in-service training for department staff; participates in guidance and education programs with staff educator.
* Ability to complete department staffing/scheduling and make direct adjustments in staffing patterns to reflect patient census/work load to meet productivity targets * Ability to maintain records pertinent to operation of department and complete annual capital and operational budget, prepare reports related to productivity, performance improvement activities, financial information and department meetings in a timely manner.
* Performs competency evaluations of all staff members * Ability to analyze financial information and make adjustments * Ability to develop and monitor systems to assure cost-effective selection and utilization of materials and supplies and monitoring charges.
* Ability to identify and resolve complex or recurring operational problems, consulting with Chief Nursing Officer when necessary.
* Ability to implement and evaluate a systematic orientation program for new staff with staff educator.
* Ability to delegate activity/work projects to staff and supervise their accomplishments.
* Ability to communicate appropriately and clearly with physicians, staff and administrative team * Ability to establish agendas for staff and committee meetings.
* Act as liaison between Ed Contract physicians/Hospitalists and medical staff.
* Participates as a member of the Emergency Preparedness, Policy and Procedure, and Infection Control Committees.
* Employees hired into a Leadership (management) role are expected to participate in the annual hospital Foundation giving campaign: an example of this would be the ongoing Heart of Gold employee give back program.
Employees hire into a Leadership (management) role are expected to fully participate in the Leadership Development Initiative (LDI) classes.
* As a Leader (management), it is important to be a representative of and for the hospital at times.
Leaders are expected to volunteer in the community on behalf of and in support of the hospital.
Some events that are included but not exhaustive to the list include: Tobacco Heritage Days, Chilimania, Rotary Club, Lion's Club, Milton 4th of July Parade, etc.
* Current RN licensure in State of Wisconsin * Three to five years relevant clinical RN experience * Current BLS certification * Current ACLS certification * BSN, Masters degree preferred * Prior management experience preferred * Specialty certification of the following preferred: Medical Surgical Certification, PALS.
