*Choir and Handbell Director– Job Description*
*Job Title:* FLC Choir and Handbell Director
*Reports to:* **FLC Pastor
*Job Status:* **Stipended and seasonal, about 6 hours per week September-May
*Compensation:* $150 per week
*Summary:* **The Choir and Handbell Director is responsible for ensemble music selection, weekly rehearsals and Sunday morning performances of both the Choir and Faith Ringers, the vocal and handbells ensembles of Faith Lutheran Church.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*
The following duties and responsibilities may change from time to time, as determined necessary.
Each of the position’s major areas of responsibility currently include, but are not limited to the following activities:
* Coordinates with Pastor and Worship and Music Committee to plan seasonally and scripturally appropriate music for ensembles to offer during worship
* Selects individual music pieces to fit the larger plan and worship for the day they will be performed
* Schedules and conducts weekly rehearsals for both ensembles
* Communicates with ensemble members and Director of Operations about schedule for rehearsals
* Supports singers and ringers in learning how to play to the best of their ability, sometimes teaching new singers and ringers how to sing or ring
* Schedules and conducts at least one performance by each ensemble per month
* Communicates with ensemble members, the Director of Operations and the pastor about performance schedule
* Occasional work with other local choirs or handbell ensembles for special events
*Qualification Requirements: *To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty successfully.

*Education and/or Experience: *High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; experience directing ensembles is expected, and experience with church music selection is preferred.
Personal Christian faith is preferred, as members of these ensembles often use rehearsal time as a spiritual practice.
*Physical Demands:* **Ability to stand or sit during rehearsals and performances, as well as occasional lifting of bell cases and tables.
