SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for prepping/cleaning, masking, mixing and applying paints to steel components including decks, frames, piping and various other parts as required.
Operators follow engineering drawings, work order information, Manufacturing Assembly Procedures, and other written and verbal specifications by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clean steel mechanically as needed to remove all mill scale, then wash with Hydrite or other brand of cleaning solution to remove oil and dirt.
Some jobs may specify sandblasting for cleaning operation.
Thoroughly inspecting all components for defects in materials or previous operations workmanship and notify the supervisor of any such defects.
Prime all bare steel with industrial grade primer, 2-part Urethane, 2 mils minimum dry coat.
Apply finish coat with an industrial grade, 2-part Poly-Urethane, 4 mils minimum total dry coat thickness.
Inspects work, after curing, to insure quality expectations are met.
Mil thickness of the painted parts is checked against specifications.
Mark identification such as work order numbers or job number where required.
Touch up paint on stations as they are assembled on the shop floor as needed.
Additional duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Works proficiently and accurately to control costs while maintaining high quality standards.
On-time shipping performance MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering prints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within this particular field.
Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
Works under immediate supervision.
Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
